It’s a no-brainer today that every business needs an online presence, and network marketing is no exception. As Microsoft founder Bill Gates once said, if your business is not on the Internet then you’re out of business. So, what’s stopping you from building your personal MLM blog and network marketing website for your company? There are no viable reasons on why network marketers shouldn’t start their MLM blogs and network marketing websites.
An MLM blog and a network marketing site are two different things in network marketing. As stated in MLM Jetpack’s prospecting guide, an MLM blog is a place where you congregate your social media accounts and build your authority and reliability as a network marketer. On the other hand, a network marketing website‘s purpose is to have a 24/7 information board where a prospect can be made to sign-up almost instantly or build him or her up so that he or she can sign-up shortly.
I must admit, there are already a ton of good guides on the Internet teaching on how you can start your MLM blog or network marketing website, build a six-figure MLM blog in less than a year, or something like that. But if you are in the network marketing business, starting an MLM blog or network marketing website is different from starting a general blog or website, and that’s where this guide comes in. This guide, along with other guides in MLM Jetpack, is the most explicit and extensive in its class and most of all it’s free.
Now, I’m not forcing you to get two hosting accounts for the MLM blog and network marketing website respectively. You can just start off with either the MLM blog or the network marketing website and just build the other one at a later time.
Setting Up the MLM Blog and Website
In this guide, we will be using WordPress.org as our Content Management System (CMS) for our MLM blog and network marketing website because of its adaptability and ease of use. Though there is always the option to use the free version of WordPress, you cannot truly maximize your MLM blog’s or network marketing website’s potential without the features that WordPress.org brings. But before we get started, there are three essential things that you need when starting either an MLM blog or network marketing website: a hosting plan, a domain name, and a WordPress theme.
Let me put it this way. Think of a vacant lot in a subdivision. Now, the hosting plan is like the lot where the house will be built, WordPress is like the foundation of the house, the domain name (or domain address) is like the address of the lot inside the subdivision, and the WordPress theme is the house itself complete with furniture.
The hosting plan and domain name provider that we will use is JustHost because their hosting package includes one free domain name plus it’s more affordable than other hosting plans. Likewise, if JustHost has no special intro promo as of the moment, you can get BlueHost as your hosting plan provider. BlueHost’s hosting package also includes a free domain name.
When selecting a domain name, remember the mnemonic KISS or Keep It Short and Simple. Don’t pick domain names that are uber long like nextgenerationnetworkmarketingcompany.com, but rather think and choose short and memorable ones like nextgenmlm.com. You aren’t limited to the .com domain name extension because there are tons of other extensions like .biz, .info, and .net.
Themes are the ones that make a WordPress website aesthetically beautiful. ThemeForest is arguably the largest database and seller of WordPress themes or all shapes and sizes. One of their retailed themes called Severn caught my attention, and you should check it out also.
There are of course free WordPress themes that you can select. But the main advantage of a premium theme is that it has more note-worthy features that will help your build yourself or promote your business. Premium themes are are free to customize with accordance to your liking, it is made by top-notch developers so that you can be assured all the semantics are correct plus there are almost zero security glitches, and you almost always have VIP customer support.
Installing WordPress on Your Hosting
After purchasing your hosting plan and domain name on JustHost, you will now need to install the WordPress CMS on your MLM blog or network marketing website. To do this, access your cPanel dashboard by logging in your JustHost account.
After logging in, find the install scripts button on the navigation bar then click on it. Once clicked, it will lead you to the Mojo Marketplace where you can install various website scripts but what we’re interested in is WordPress. WordPress should be the first one on the list, click on it, and the next screen click “Install”.
On the next page, you will be prompted to select the domain in which you want to install WordPress in. Also on this page, you will be asked to key in your desired username and password to be used as your log-in credentials when logging in to your new WordPress installation. After reviewing what you’ve done, click the “Install Now” button. Congratulations! You just created your self-hosted WordPress installation.
To log-in to your site, add the word “/wp-login” at the end of your domain name. For example mlmjetpack.com/wp-login. Once done, it will lead you to a page where it will ask you the log-in credentials you typed when you installed WordPress.
Installing Your Theme in WordPress
It’s now time to configure some things on WordPress. First of all, you need to install your purchased theme from ThemeForest to your WordPress installation.
The initial step when you want to install/upload a new theme is to hover on the “Appearance” menu (the one with the paintbrush icon) on the WordPress navigation bar then click on “Themes”. Next, click the “Add New” button beside a search form for finding installed themes.
Subsequently, click on the “Upload Theme” button beside the Add Themes title. Lastly, click on the “Choose File” button, select the premium theme you bought and click “Install Now”. Your desired theme will be uploaded shortly to your WordPress installation. After uploading, you need to click on the “Activate” button when you hover your mouse on the uploaded theme to use it.
You can edit your theme by hovering over your theme’s icon on the WordPress navigation bar and selecting the settings you want to modify. The theme I’m using is the Genesis Framework theme, see the Genesis menu with the “G” icon on the WordPress navigation bar? You can also edit your theme by clicking on your current theme’s “Customize” button when you are looking at the list of your site’s installed themes.
How to Install WordPress Plugins
One of the best functionalities of WordPress is that it has a lot of plugins that do all kinds of stuff like improve your site speed, strengthen your site’s security, and filter out spam comments. Plugins are what makes WordPress great and so widespread that majority of websites on the Internet uses WordPress. You can find plugins of all shapes and sizes in WordPress’ plugin repository.
To add a new plugin, hover on the “Plugin” menu (the one with the plug icon) then click on the “Add New” option. Once clicked, it will lead you to a page where you can see some featured and popular plugins, a search box if you want to search a particular plugin in the WordPress plugin repository, and an “Upload Plugin” button if you wish to upload a WordPress plugin from your computer.
Creating WordPress Pages and Posts
WordPress pages are used to create the various pages of your MLM blog and network marketing website like to “about” page and “contact” page. Their main difference between WordPress posts is that pages don’t indicate the author, the time, and date it was published. Also, WordPress pages have more Search Engine Optimization (SEO) power in them compared to WordPress posts.
To create a WordPress page, hover your mouse pointer on the “Pages” menu (the one with two stacked papers) in the WordPress navigation bar then click “Add New”. Afterward, you will be landing on the WordPress visual editor. It’s just like Microsoft Word from here on out where you use various functions like bold and justify. If you are more code savvy, and you know your way around HTML, you can use the text editor tab to view the raw HTML code. If you’re done creating and proofing your article, hit the red “Publish” button on the right side to make it available to the world.
The same process goes with WordPress posts. To create a WordPress post, hover your mouse on the “Posts” menu (the one with the pin icon) in the WordPress navigation bar then click “Add New”.
The succeeding section is the part where this guide is unique from other guides on the Internet. Unlike any other guides out there, this guide will also teach you what to put on your MLM blog or network marketing website rather than just explaining how you can get your site running.
What to Put Inside the MLM Blog
Your MLM blog must have four important pages: a posts page where your blog posts will be located. An “about me” page where you will explain to your audience who you are and your achievements. A “contact me” page where visitors can reach you. And a page that describes your network marketing business briefly. You can also add other pages that you think will fit appropriately with your MLM blog.
A blog isn’t a blog if it doesn’t have a posts page. In WordPress, you can set your posts page by hovering on the “Settings” menu, clicking on the “Reading” option, then clicking on the “A static page” radio option. Your posts page can be your site’s front page (home page) or a specified page.
Before starting on posting on your MLM blog, you must have at least three topics and a maximum of five topics in mind that you should revolve your MLM blog’s content around on. For example, these three subjects could be online marketing, offline marketing, and training in network marketing. You need to base your content around these topics religiously so you wouldn’t stray away from the central theme of your MLM blog.
Remember that an MLM blog’s objective is to be your initial Internet presence as a person where you can banner your authority and credibility. People would be more complacent to join someone who is more authoritative, credible, and knowledgeable about a subject matter. If you are talking about online and offline marketing in network marketing or other related topics, wouldn’t that make you authoritative, credible, and knowledgeable?
An “about me” page is the special page where you will post information about yourself. Recommended content to place on this page could be your story on why you started this MLM blog or how you got in network marketing and your network marketing achievements. Your story will support an MLM blog’s objective of being more authoritative and credible. The “about me” page is also the primary place where you will display your social media profiles.
Consecutively, a “contact me” page is the page where you will put your contact information in like your phone number and e-mail address so that visitors can contact you. A contact me page is also the page where you can alternatively place your social media profiles.
Lastly, there is a particular page for information about your network marketing business. Inside this page, brief information about your company like its history, products, compensation plan, and even testimonials are placed. You want the information on this page to be as concise as possible because you want to be building the interest of your visitor so that he or she will visit your network marketing website afterward. Think of this page as a landing page.
What to Put Inside the Website
A network marketing website explaining your MLM business also has its special pages: a landing page as a front page that captures the attention of visitors and dedicated pages for the company’s business overview, products, compensation plan, and business packages. Also, you can include a blog in the network marketing website and also a “contact me” page. Consecutively, you can add other pages that you think will fit appropriately with your network marketing website.
The landing page can be the same page that you used for the MLM blog because they will attain the same objective – to capture the attention of the visitor so that he or she will be enticed to learn more and click on the other specialized pages in the network marketing website.
The “specialized pages” mentioned are the pages for the company profile, products, compensation plan, and business packages. Now, these are the pages where you go at it and provide information in excruciating detail. For example in business packages portion, you will need to write down every business package that your network marketing business provides, the pros and cons of every business package, what’s included in each business package variant, and the price of each business package. Don’t be conservative on using only text because you can also use images, videos, and animated GIFs to channel what you’re saying to your audience more fluidly.
Note that your network marketing website can also have a blog in it, but the content of this blog are reserved for announcements of your company, news about special incentivized promos that your team is giving to new sign-ups, and even a photo gallery of your team’s recent get-together.
Lastly, don’t forget the contact page! The contact page is where the network marketing website visitor can turn into a prospect for your business. As the same with your MLM blog, the content of your network marketing website’s contact page should include your phone number, your e-mail address, and your social media profiles.
